GTA 6 release date: 19 November 2026

The short answer

Grand Theft Auto VI releases on 19 November 2026. It launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on that day, worldwide.

This is not a rumour or a retailer placeholder. Rockstar Games published the date on its own Newswire on 24 June 2026, one day before pre-orders opened. It is the same date shown on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store listings.

How Rockstar confirmed it

The date appeared in the Newswire post announcing that pre-orders would open on 25 June 2026. That post also set the prices, named the two editions, and described the Vintage Vice City pre-order bonus. A publisher naming a date in the same breath as taking money for it is about as firm as a date gets before launch.

Take-Two, the company that owns Rockstar, repeated the date publicly afterwards. Chief executive Strauss Zelnick said on an earnings call that the game would not be delayed again.

The two delays, in order

GTA 6 has slipped twice. Both slips were announced by Rockstar or Take-Two directly, not leaked.

Rockstar gave the same reason both times: it wanted more time to finish the game to the standard it wanted. Bloomberg reported the second delay and the reasoning behind it.

Why a November date makes sense

November is where the biggest games go. It sits in the holiday buying window, it lands inside Take-Two’s financial year, and it gives the game the whole Christmas period to sell. Moving from May to November also moved the game out of a quieter sales month into the busiest one.

What is still not known

Plenty. Be careful with any site that claims otherwise.

• No unlock time. Rockstar has not said what hour the game goes live in your country. Past Rockstar games unlocked at midnight local time. That is a pattern, not a promise.
• No PC date. GTA 6 launches on consoles only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version at all, let alone dated one. See the platforms page for what is actually confirmed.
• No review date. Rockstar has not said when reviews or previews go up.
• No age rating published yet in most regions.

What you can do now

Pre-orders have been open since 25 June 2026. Anyone who pre-orders before 20 November 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City pack free, on either edition. If you buy digitally, you also get one free month of GTA+.

Preloading starts on 12 November 2026, one week before launch, for digital pre-orders.
